About Oak Ridge Game Calls

Like most hunters I was introduced to hunting by a relative-in my case it was my Grandfather. Grandpa Robbins was the type of hunter that wasn't so much interested in head-gear but putting meat on the table. Grandpa taught me more about the outdoors and how Mother Nature effects game, then any other person I have ever hunted with. Grandpa was a farmer by trade and he used to say, "that anything which comes for nature, whether it be crops or wild game was harvested," hence even today I still say we harvest game. This was during a time when being political correct wasn't necessary, it would have mattered to Grandpa either way. Having grown-up in the Great Depression, Grandpa wasn't into chasing game after he shot. Not having a lot of money for shells, the first shot had to put the game on the ground. These are a just couple of many lessons I would learn from this great-man and sportsmen. My hunt was with Grandpa, I remember it like it was yesterday-though it was over 45 years ago. Grandpa put me by a big OAK tree and told me to sit there and not make a sound. As the morning past, I heard shots off in the distance but never saw a deer. On our way out Grandpa would explain to me that when your hunting you must be quite and stay still. During the later part of his life I was fortunate enough to spend more time with Grandpa in the deer woods, while on one such hunt I was able to call up a nice fork-horn buck for Grandpa. As the buck past Grandpa, he never said a word. Again on our walk out, he asked where I learned to call deer and I told me from being quite just like you told me. Grandpa is no longer with us but, his sprint lives every time I talk to a deer, turkey or waterfowl. Some have asked me, "why another game call company"? Like you for years I have been using pre-manufactured calls, it seems I would have to go though several calls until I found one that work the way I wanted. Years ago, I started testing a few calls I had been making in my basement. It wasn't long before friends and hunting clients wanted to purchase them, at that time I began to realize that other hunters had the same problem as me, they couldn't find a good call. Each Oak Ridge Game Call is handcrafted in my workshop, that is tucked in the corner of northwestern Pennsylvania. The name Oak Ridge Game Calls , came from that first hunt with my Grandpa.
